ABOUT ME

I hold a 2:1 BA Hons in English Literature and Creative Writing.  After gaining a merit award to study at the university, I have since then worked hard to ensure I gain as much editorial experience as possible. I am also enrolled on an MA in Publishing Studies.

I am self-employed as a book cataloguer for an antiquarian book company.

In June 2015, I held the role of Publishing Assistant for New Welsh Review's summer placement scheme. This involved interviewing Alix Nathan, author of The Flight of Sarah Battle, recording audio reviews and creating creative interpretations of four poems.

I am a Junior Editor  with Personal Statement Checker Ltd, a company that works with university applicants in producing top quality statements to ensure admission onto their chosen course. This involves paying attention to grammar, lexical choices and re-structuring the statement for improved flow.

In addition to this, I work as a freelancer for oDesk, having recieved 5 stars for much of my work. Reviews of this can be seen on my testomonial page. In this capacity, I have edited:

  • a fantasy novel - The Keys of Awakening by Claudio Silvano

  • a YA  fantasy novel - Blufire by Evelyn Squire

  • a YA dystopian novel - Savage Run by Evelyn Squire

  • a non-fiction work  on John Mullan by Ann Johnson.

  • a non-fiction health guide by Anika De Gloria

  • an action novel  - Agent on a Misson by Rose Fox

  • a non-fiction historical guide on historical leaders

  • a non-fiction self-help guide

  • a detective story and a romance story

Furthermore, I have worked with an academic in copyediting, typesetting and proofing two historical non-fiction works. I have indexed and proofread an academic work that is to come out in a few months.

I am in regular contact with an established literary agent, Gill McLay and have helped her in the planning of literature festivals and proofing manuscripts.

In the past I have worked with Waterstones which has allowed me to see the commercial side of publishing and gain insight into readers' tastes and trends of the book industry.

Not only do I have retail experience, I also have experience within the industry itself. I interned for the digital startup publishing company Movellas (www.movellas.com), on which I both write and hold the role of editorial ambassador. In this internship, I was responsible for social media, promotions, judging competitions and both planning and filming workshops for Youtube. It gave me great insight into the digital world of publishing which is extremely important for a modern author.

I am also currently volunteering with Honno Press, an established publishing house in Wales. In this role I have sat in on editorial production meetings, worked with a professional editor and conducted research into reader's tastes via research.

In May 2015, I came runner up in a writing competition for Movellas. The competition was judged by an established author,Melissa Salisbury. http://www.movellas.com/blog/show/201504262230596274/winners-of-the-sin-eaters-daughter-competition-announced
